April Sunday 11th Sunday 25th Thursday 29th
May Sunday 16th
As always the day will start at 10.30 and finish at 3.00, please bring your own lunch but afternoon cake is provided! Any tools e.g. secateurs, buckets, folks and gardening gloves would be helpful as we don’t have a limitless supply yet….
At Buckland we have a challenge for the winter months and that is to build and position as many bird boxes as possible before spring 2010 so far we have put up over seventy bird and bat boxes and are just about to start on the duck nests, so come and help!
Attached are some photos of the reserve taken over the summer.

Summer Gardening and Volunteer Update 2009
Summer gardening and volunteer update
There is always a lot to do at the reserve, from planting, weeding, trimming back and maintaining
the 1.1/2 mile pathway to carrying out wildlife and plant surveys’.
We need your help and enthusiasm!
Throughout the year we have regular ‘volunteer days’ and the timetable is as follows….
The day starts at 10.00 with a brief about which jobs need to be done and where.
Then everyone gets busy and involved in the task ahead. At 12.00 its ‘tools down’ for a leisurely lunch ‘you have to bring
your own food and drink, but afternoon cake is provided!’ This gives you a chance to chat to everyone and do some wildlife
spotting around the reserve if you wish.

At 1.00 work begins again, there are jobs suitable for everyone, whatever your age or fitness level.
Come 2.45 its ‘job done’ and time to put the tools away and have some well deserved tea and cake!
Not only do these ‘volunteer days’ prove invaluable support for Buckland, but its also a great way for you to get
involved with your local nature reserve and discover more about the wildlife and plants that live here. Making new
friends and keeping fit are yet more benefits of getting involved!
If you can’t spare the whole day, please feel free to join us for as many hours as you like.
If you’re the ‘green fingered’ type, and cant resist having some seedlings on the go, we are always happy to find a home
for any spare plants. They do have to be drought hardy though.
Upcoming volunteer dates to put in your diary…..
Sunday 26th July
Sunday 16th August
sunday 20th September
Sunday 11th october and Thursday 22nd October
Sunday 15th november
Thursday 10th December and sunday 13th December
Please call me to let me know if you are planning to come, on the morning of the particular day. It helps me to
plan how many tools and cake to bring, it also enables us to see what the weather is doing, as we have to cancel if its raining.
Hope to see you soon
